DIY Gallery Wall

We've lived in our home for almost 3 years now and for those almost 3 years our entry way has looked like this.

Pretty blah, right? That is until I read the book Young House Love {243 Ways to Paint, Craft, Update, and Show Your Home Some Love} which  gave me the inspiration I needed to perk up that area of our house. I went with tip #117 (found on page 168) which was Master a Few Framing Arrangements.  Although I'm no stranger to the gallery wall style (we have one in our craft room/guest bedroom as well as one in our living room) I wanted to go a bit more bold with this one, going for an asymmetrical style layout, filled with mirrors, framed photos, and  happy sayings.

We had a ton of frames already on hand but I set out to Goodwill to see what else I could find and after that I headed to Walmart (mainly because they were right across the street from each other).  At the end of the day I was left with a mix of all sorts of framed goodies.

Before hanging anything on the wall I laid everything out until I got the asymmetrical design I was going for.  It also helps to snap some pics while laying everything out, so you can use it as a reference before hanging them up.  Taking pics also helped in my case where I was going to have to spray paint some of the frames to give them a more unified look.

I went with Oil Rubbed Bronze Krylon spray paint and I couldn't have been happier with the results. Once all the frames were dry it was time to hang them up.  Using the previous pics I snapped as a guide (switching up the design just a little bit) I hammered in the nails, hung up the new photos, mirrors, and artwork and viola!

Big difference right?! Here's the before and after.

We're totally digging the new gallery wall in our entry way. It definitely helps that area blend in with the rest of the house. I have high hopes of finding a super cute table to place under the frames but I'm hoping it won't take another 3 years for that to happen.

New to the Shop and Discount Code

Well hello there! Since it's been a while since I shared any Shop related news I thought I'd pop in and let you all know what's new.

Say hello to the latest addition to the Thrifty and Fabulous Accessories shop.  Elastic Hair Ties!

The great thing about these babies is they are completely, 100%,  non-damaging to the hair and they don't leave any creases or dents.  Nice huh?  Another great bonus?  They double as some pretty darn cute bracelets.

And since I am so excited to be sharing these newbies with you all I'm going to include a special discount code that you can use on the Elastic Hair Ties...or anything else you'd like from the shop. Enter code CELEBRATE at checkout and you'll score 15% off your entire order!

Happy shopping!

Must Have Makeup Brushes

I go ga-ga over makeup brushes! Although there are a few brushes I've tried and realized I could do without, today I thought I'd share with you the ones I gotta have! And by gotta have I mean the ones I use every time I do my makeup (as you can probably tell from the pics, these bad boys get used...a lot!).

1.  e.l.f Kabuki Face Brush use to apply mineral foundation all over face.
2.  bareMinerals Tapered Blush Brush
3.  Sephora Collection Double Ended Every Day Eye Brush use to shade and blend eyeshadow.
4.  bareMinerals Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush use to apply mineral concealer.
5.  Sephora Collection Pro Brow Comb use for eyebrows and eyelashes.
6.  bareMinerals Full Tapered Shadow Brush
7.  bareMinerals Angled Eyeliner Brush (didn't see it on their site, so I'm thinking it's out of stock).

So what makeup brushes can you not live without?  Are you a fan of the Kabuki brushes? I'm madly in love with Sephora and bareMinerals brand makeup brushes but  I have to admit e.l.f makes some pretty darn good brushes too and at a fraction of the cost! Gotta love that.

Craft Fair Season part 3

My last but certainly not least Craft Fair that I attended last season was the Cheyenne Mountain Holiday Craft Fair and Gift Market.  Holy moly this craft fair was Ah-mazing! There were over 170 vendors...crazy right?!

I sold out of several items and made quite a bit of dough.  Even though it was a super long day (over 8 hrs) it was well worth it.  I hope I am able to attend again at the end of the year.

As you can probably tell from just that first photo that place was packed! But believe me, I was loving every minute of it.

I can't share my experience with this Craft Fair without mentioning the wonderful shoppers that attended.  They were what made this event so worth while.  They were friendly, energetic, and over all the bestest shoppers ever!

Well that sums up my Craft Fairs for 2012.  Just in case you missed it you can check out part 1 and part 2.

Did you attend any craft fairs in 2012?  Were you a shopper or a vendor?  Feel free to leave me a comment with your craft fair experiences and if you have a link to any craft fair related posts feel free to share them in the comment section!

Always in Style Makeup

Being the thrifty gal that I am, most of the makeup products I use have to do with whether they were on sale or not (have you seen the prices of some of the stuff out there? haha).  However, there are a few beauty products that no matter how much they cost I will always be a fan, mainly because these beauties never go out of style.

bareMinerals can do no wrong in my book.  Their products are one of the few that don't make my face breakout and they also help calm and cover my rosacea (sadly I was not blessed with flawless skin, so makeup is a necessity for this lady).

Of course you can never go wrong with a great light brown eyeshadow and nude colored lipstick. The two go great with any skin color as well as any season.

So here are my favorite, always in style, makeup products.

1.  bareMinerals Eyeliner in Charcoal
2.  Wet n Wild Mega Last Lipcolor in Bare it All
3.  bareMinerals SPF 15 Matte Foundation in Medium (my foundation color changes about 3 times a year but right now I'm currently using the Medium shade).
4.  Maybelline New York Expert Wear Eyeshadow in Silken Taupe High-Pearl finish
5.  bareMinerals Correcting Concealer SPF 20 in Light 1

Oh yeah, the Wet n Wild lipstick was purchased at Walmart for get this...under $2! It's incredible stuff too.

So what makeup products do you think can stand the test of time?  Is there a lipstick or eyeshadow you've worn for years?  Share away!

Craft Fair Season part 2

Now that the Holidays are over I finally have enough time to share with you all the second craft fair I attended last year (Did you miss the 1st one? If so you can read all about it here.).  The second one I attended was at Phelan Gardens, a greenhouse located in Colorado Springs.  This was my 2nd time as a vendor at this location.  The year before when I attended the Ladies Night and Drop and Shop Event at Phelan Gardens it was my very first time as a vendor at any craft fair, so I was extremely nervous.  Luckily, I had such a blast last year that when they asked if I would return as a vendor this year I couldn't say YES fast enough.

The only bummer I experienced was being in the middle of 2 other vendors.  This led to me having to move out of the way for the vendor to the left who wanted to keep the walk way to the left of her table free, while the vendors to the right blocked the walk way on my free side. Then on a few occasions they borrowed my mirror and failed to put it back where I originally had it...and at some points they just kept my mirror on their table altogether (since I will admit to having for real OCD the mirror thing probably bothered me more than it would have bothered any one else, ha ha).  Even though my booth location wasn't ideal I still had a fab time (and the vendors on each side of me were very nice, I would have just preferred an end table like I had the year before).

I have to say though I was in love with the greenhouse setting.  Flowers everywhere! It was beautiful, especially as the evening went on and it started to get dark it was like those flowers just burst with light.  It was dreamy.

I still have one more Craft Fair to share from last year and it was by far the BIGGEST one ever! Trust me, you won't want to miss it!

My New Year's Resolution

I'm not normally one to make New Year's Resolutions.  I'm one of those crazy folks that believes a person should strive to be happy, healthy, and an over all good person year round, not just because it's a New Year.  But crazy folk or not, this year there really is one thing I would like to work harder on at, well you get the idea. And that my friends is Blogging! More often and more of it!

I have some plans in the works for more beauty related posts as well as the occasional DIY project.  If you have an idea (or multiple ideas) for posts you would like to see more of please feel free to share.  For the new year I really want the Thrifty and Fabulous Accessories blog to be about things that inspire me and make me feel good (recipes, giveaways, beauty tips and tricks, shop updates, things of that nature).  But I also want this blog to be a place that inspires you and makes you feel good as well. It's all about sharing in the goodness people! So don't be shy when it comes to what you liked to see more of!

Now when it comes to the New Year's Resolutions bit are you the type of person who makes them?  Keeps them? Or do you skip the whole thing altogether?
