Those are the new, super awesome shoe shelves I share with my hubby. Want to see what we had before?
Pretty bad isn't it? Since the previous shoe rack wasn't exactly cutting it (and there was no room what so ever for my husband's shoes) I was super inspired when I spotted this image on Pinterest. I love how Carmel used the shoe shelves as a way to gain storage both horizontally and vertically. Even more I loved how she spruced them up using nothing but a gold sharpie. So I headed to Target and picked up 3 new shoe shelves and a gold sharpie. Then I went through my shoes and decided which ones to keep and which ones to get rid of. I was surprised at how many shoes I kept shoved on that old shoe rack that I didn't even wear. Once all the sorting was done and the new shoe shelves were built I was thrilled with how much more storage there was. My husband even had room to add some his shoes! That was a huge accomplishment.
Then last week I made a trip to Ikea. LOVE that place! I was so giddy when I found this set of storage drawers. It fits great on my side of the closet and it stores several items. The first drawer is filled with scarves, the second drawer is filled with leggings, the third with sweatshirts, and the fourth with swimsuit cover ups. Since these items are either too long to hang up or too bulky to fit on hangers they fit great in these drawers and leave more room for the items I like to hang up.
Another trick to make the most out of a small closet? I use these S hooks (that I got at Lowe's a few years back) to hang a few of my handbags.
So that is how we try to make the most out of our small master closet. Luckily we have several other places for where we store things like coats, my dresses, and my husband's Army gear. That definitely helps in keeping the master closet functional.
Are you one of those lucky ones blessed with a huge walk in closet? Or are you like us and stuck with one that's on the smaller side? As someone who loves to see how people use their closet space I'd love to know!
