Life Lately {Part 2}

I have more Instagram pics to share with you all.  Pretty exciting right?  Well this time I promise all the pics won't be of my backyard garden.  Instead they'll be a quick little glimpse into some of the other fun things I've been filling my Summer with.  Let's begin shall we?

I've taken the kiddos to the pool several times and they absolutely love it. Of course I swim with them but I also like to take little breaks and catch up on my magazine reading.  My sweet Mom got me a subscription to Allure mag and I absolutely love it!

This is why I absolutely love summer time and Colorado.  Isn't this scenery just gorgeous?  Purple Mountains Majesty indeed.

For a while the temps here were HOT HOT HOT but on evenings where it wasn't 100+ degrees I'd enjoy a nice chilled glass of wine out on the front porch.  I got to admit evenings like that make me wish we had a deck.  Someday, maybe.

I finally finished reading this book.  Cover to cover. I'm obsessed with Sunset magazines and this book was worth every penny! Love, love, love it.

And last but certainly not least...

My very first ripe cherry tomatoes.  My daughter did the honors of trying them first and she absolutely loved them.  We've had some more ripen and they are the yummiest, juiciest, tomatoes ever! Can't wait till even more are ready to devour.

So that's Life Lately Part 2.  See you soon for Part 3 ;)

DIY All Natural Face Moisturizer

You may remember this post I shared from a while back about all the amazing uses for Coconut Oil.  Well my absolute favorite way to use Coconut Oil is by adding it to my facial care routine.  It's super simple and only requires 2 ingredients.

All Natural Homemade Moisturizer Recipe
*Coconut Oil
*Vitamin E (softgels or oil)

First grab a re-sealable and microwave safe container.  Fill it about 1/2 way with coconut oil and warm in the microwave for about 15 seconds (or until coconut oil is completely melted).  Next add several drops of Vitamin E oil.  This can be done by either puncturing at least 2 Vitamin E softgels with a safety pin/needle or by using Vitamin E oil (which can be found in most health food and supplement stores).

Once the Vitamin E has been added (as little or as much as you'd like) give it a good stir and pop it in the fridge for about 10 minutes (or however long it needs to turn to a solid again).  After that you are all set to go! It's that simple.

I like to keep my container in my bathroom medicine cabinet.  I use it every morning before applying makeup as well as every night after washing my face.  As someone who has struggled with adult acne this all natural moisturizer has made all the difference!

Actually my whole family is obsessed with this moisturizer.  My husband finds it gives him a closer and cleaner shave whenever he applies it the night before and even my kids ask if they can use it when they feel their skin is starting to get a bit dry. So in my book it's some pretty awesome stuff!

Have you tried any creative uses for Coconut Oil? If so feel free to share below, I'm always on the lookout for new ways to use that amazing stuff.

Life Lately {Part 1}

Yep, that's right folks this post is in fact titled Life Lately Part 1.  I've been neglecting this little old blog of mine for so long and I have so many pics to share that they couldn't possibly fit into one post.  I mean, I guess technically they could but then it would be like the post that didn't end (and we all know how fun those can be, am I right?).

Since I have oodles of pics I'm dying to share I'm going to attempt to group them all into somewhat similar groups.  So this part will be about my favorite Summer project to date...My backyard garden!

This is how my gardening season started out back in April once I successfully transplanted my indoor seedlings to outside life.  My have they grown since then (hopefully I'll have more current pics to share in the following days).

And that's how it was looking in May.  It's crazy to see how much it's all grown since then.

Around June my cherry tomato plant started sprouting these lovely maters.  This was my first attempt at growing any type of tomatoes so it definitely warranted a picture.

Then around the middle of June we had our first crazy hail storm.  I was so worried that my garden would be destroyed but luckily the next day when I accessed the damage it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought.  See everything survived!  Well almost everything...

The hail had knocked this little cherry tomato right off it's little vine.

And last but not least...

I also thought I'd try my hand (or somewhat Green Thumb) at strawberries.  This pic was snapped right after they were planted back in late May so I hadn't even cut the runners off yet.  Man, do those runner suckers sprout up like crazy! I had no idea.

Well folks that's been Life Lately Part 1.  I guess I could have titled this Gardening Pics Part 1 or My Instagram is Full of Nothing But Plants Pictures Part 1. I can't help it though, this little garden venture has really turned into a labor of love. I can't wait to share more current pics of my garden.  It's crazy y'all!

Thanks so much for letting me share my Life Lately and be sure to stop by to see Part 2...coming soon!

Rainy Day in Old Colorado City

Lately I've become obsessed with beads! I've been making some new beaded necklaces and bracelets that I can't wait to add to the Etsy shop. Hopefully they'll all be added to my shop by the end of the week!

So while I was googling local bead shops I found what appeared to be the cutest little bead store located in Old Colorado City.  Old Colorado is located about 20-30 minutes from where I live so it's not that far of a drive.  A couple of weekends ago the whole family decided they wanted to go with me (side note-next time I think I will go by myself. Ha!).

Sadly, once we got there the weather turned to yuckiness and the only store not open at noon on a Saturday was...yep, you guessed it-the bead store.  I was definitely bummed because the hours that were displayed said it was open yet all the lights were out and the door was locked (No sign stating "gone to lunch" or "be back later". What a bummer).

I could have gladly kept walking around, snapping pictures all day (even though it had started sprinkling) but the rest of the family wasn't having it.  So next time I will call ahead to make sure the bead store is open and more than likely I will go by myself.  Either way the 10 minutes that we spent there was pretty nice in my eyes.  I hadn't been to Old Colorado in years so I had forgotten how pretty it is there.

It was actually super crowded that day so I was amazed that I was able to get a picture as good as the one above.

I absolutely adored the outside of the Tudor style Puppet Theatre. It totally reminded me of when my family was stationed in England (back in the early 90's). I didn't dare venture inside though since old school puppets tend to give me the heebee-jeebees! I blame my sister for all the times she made me watch Puppet Master with her.  Remember those movies?

Even though our trip to Old Colorado didn't go as planned it was still fun to get out and explore. What about you?  Any recent trips go differently than you had hoped? If so feel free to share!

Easiest Way to Get a Clean Sink

Oh the powers of vinegar! You might recall how I used vinegar to clean our coffeemaker.  Well ladies and gents that's the only thing you'll need to get a super, shiny, kitchen sink.  I swear it works 10x better than some of those store bought stainless steal cleaners.

Case in point, our sad dirty sink...

Not very shiny is it? Well let's take an even closer look shall we?

Yucky isn't it?  Well the fastest and "greenest" ways to get rid of all that hard water buildup is some warm vinegar. Yep, just plain old vinegar.

I like to heat the vinegar up in the microwave for about 30 seconds (doesn't make for the best smell in the world but it does help degrease the microwave).  Once the vinegar is heated I pour it into a spray bottle and spray the heck out of the sink.  You could also go the route of dabbing a wash cloth into the bowl of warm vinegar (just be sure the vinegar isn't scalding hot, got to use common sense now people).  I like the spray bottle version because I can do something else for about 10 minutes (like play Candy Crush), let the vinegar do it's job then come back and wipe with a wash cloth.

If you have a couple of stubborn spots, like I did, you can up the cleaning power by adding a couple dashes of baking soda.  It works wonders when combined with vinegar.

Now for the after!

Ah, So Fresh and So Clean, Clean!

Those Days...

It's officially summer break over here at our casa which means a house filled with 2 crazy kiddos and their friends.  This usually equates to a less than tidy home, which for a neat freak like me can be a bit unnerving.  However, I'm realizing that a home can always get cleaned at a later time but those precious moments filled with children's fun and laughter, well those can never be replaced.  Also, who wants to spend hours and hours scrubbing and cleaning when there's the gorgeous, sunny, great outdoors awaiting?! So, I'm slowly but surely taking cleaning a little less serious and I'm perfectly okay with that.  But when those days do happen where I can manage to have a clean house, while children are there, well those are picture worthy moments in my book!

As you can tell our dog has a pretty pampered life.  I get the house all shiny and clean but she's the one whose clearly pooped.  Ah, the Dog Days of Summer.

DIY Gold Dot Coffee Mug

Today I have yet another Coffee Inspired blog post. If you've been reading my blog for a little while (or for only a week) then you are well aware of my Cup of Joe addiction. You can get up to date on this obsession by checking out this post and this one.

Now that you'll all caught up lets' move on to one of the cutest DIY's ever.

If you've been on Pinterest I'm sure you've seen this.  I decided to give it a try since we have a ton of coffee mugs around here (the one I used was scored at Goodwill for around $0.49).

Items you'll need:
Coffee Mug

The next step is pretty simple, just doodle away! I decided to go for the dot look inspired by this Kate Spade Dish Set.

Once you're happy with your doodle place the coffee mug into a baking pan and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Side note: I do not recommend vacuuming while your coffee mug is baking because when the timer goes off you might not hear it (true story).

Taadaaaa!  There you have it!

I haven't ran this mug through the dishwasher yet.  I've heard conflicting comments while perusing pinterest that the sharpie will wash away, while others say it lasted through the wash just fine.  If you have any experience with this feel free to leave me comment below.

Now to my cup of coffee......
